Dr Kate Hammer FHEA

I have always been fascinated by language, music, and human potential.

I am a Doctor in Applied Linguistics (University of London, Birkbeck College), Public Speaker, Published Author, and Founder of Ultimate Attainment Speech.

I have mentored individuals in a variety of settings including UK Higher Education, English language education, language immersion, and professional training. I have an excellent track record in helping individuals achieve their potential.

I have taught at UCL Institute of Education, University College London, Queen Mary University of London, University of Westminster, University of Greenwich, and Birkbeck University of London. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy – an international recognition awarded to professionals whose teaching practice is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (ref: PRI28476).

My research over the years have focused on communicative, cognitive, and affective aspects of language use, phonetics and phonology, and language use in people who speak more than one language. I have taught a variety of topics including Accents of English, Second Language Acquisition, Bilingualism, Morphology and Lexicon, Language Teaching, Language Testing, Ultimate Attainment, and many others.

I have presented at numerous international conferences, in both academic and business contexts, including at universities in Edinburgh, Barcelona, Milan, London, Berlin, Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki. I have authored a series of peer-reviewed articles which have been published by reputable publishing houses including Cambridge University Press (ORCID: 0000-0002-8126-6489).

I am passionate about speech, words, and the sounds of language. To me, speech is like a symphony which enables us to express our thoughts, connect with others, and mark our presence. I am a proud member of the London Branch of the English-Speaking Union. I serve as a Judge of public speaking competitions in England.

At Ultimate Attainment Speech I work with individuals from all walks of life and help them discover and fulfil their speech potential. I do this by employing an interdisciplinary approach which combines my expertise in linguistics and pedagogy, with passion for music and extensive knowledge of the communicative, cognitive, and affective aspects of language use.
